Simplicity Is Key

Every New Year, we all make new resolutions for ourselves. Some of them are attainable and others are goals we know we can’t and/or won’t keep up with. This year, I wanted to try and work for some resolutions that I thought would be best for me. Goals that aren’t only good for the body but are also good for the mind and the soul. Besides, how many times can we really tell ourselves we’re going to do the usual “eat better and work out more” mumbo-jumbo? This year, one of my New Years Resolutions that I’m the most excited for is to work on is more simplicity. I want to cut of the extra things that I think I need to keep myself happy. Why? Because sometimes less really is more. To quote fashion icon Coco Chanel, “Simplicity is the key note of all true elegance.” So, I decided to start my New Years Resolution by simplifying my wardrobe, which was not surprisingly not easy to do at first. I sat and looked at my closet for at least thirty minutes before I actually moved anything. I took out so many pieces from my closet that I don’t wear, don’t need or simply never wore. From trendy pieces to pieces with crazy patterns that made me think, “when and why the heck did I buy this?!,” taking them out of my wardrobe actually wasn’t as hard as I originally thought it was going to be. After a couple hours of moving things in and out of my closet, mixed with a few martinis and lots of Britney themed dance breaks (that’s normal right?), I was actually super happy with how my closet looked! It was so much less cluttered and visually, looked so much better!

I wanted to apply this sense of simplicity to my next photoshoot for the blog. For this look, we went with all solids. We picked this GORGEOUS black overcoat from Asos (which has quickly become my new favorite coat!), with a creme colored sweater and my favorite ripped denim from H&M. For the shoes, we picked these AMAZING tan suede boots from Calvin Klein. These are literally one of the sharper and most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn! They make any outfit pop without being too over the top.
